Strong family ties and a passion for changing working conditions in the cleaning industry were the driving force behind Cleaning Melbourne’s CEO David Gagovski establishing the company in 2008. He founded the company to enable a safe, dignified and fair work environment for this mother, a cleaner, and has since taken Cleaning Melbourne from humble beginnings to a steadily growing organisation providing employment opportunities for people across the greater Melbourne area and servicing over 850 facilities in local communities. His drive and strong leadership have now been recognised by The CEO Magazine who have announced him as a finalist in this year’s Executive of the Year Awards in two categories – CEO of the Year and Managing Director of the Year.
The story of Cleaning Melbourne’s beginnings and continued growth are testament to the positive leadership, direction and vision that David portrays each day. Fuelled by a desire to achieve a level of success that would enable him to improve working conditions in the cleaning industry, David recalls the motivating factor to establishing a commercial cleaning company.
‘Growing up, I watched my mother struggle – she was treated poorly, was often not paid what she was entitled to, and bullied. I remember thinking back then that I was going to be the one to change the cleaning industry.’
Under David’s leadership, Cleaning Melbourne has achieved a significant increase in sales year on year for the past eight years. Steadily gaining prominence as one of Melbourne’s leading commercial cleaning businesses and being a major provider of services to local governments in Melbourne, it employs over 200 staff from diverse cultural backgrounds. David recognises the importance of a strong and positive culture and has led the example across the Cleaning Melbourne team to create a high performing organisation at all levels. The excellent reputation of the company is founded on the back of strong Company Values.
’I strongly believe that to deliver high quality and value add services and to set ourselves apart from our competitors, we need to show that we CARE. Therefore, all of our staff are well versed in our values and take great pride in delivering them.’
The Values summed up in the word, CARE, are reinforced throughout our culture, language and literature.
- Customers – exceeding their requirements
- Accountability – always doing the right thing
- Respect – treating others as we would like to be treated
- Excellence – striving for excellence in all things, big and small
The CEO Magazine host the Executive of the Year Awards each year which recognise the achievements of high-level executives in Australia and Europe.
David has been shortlisted as a finalist for this year’s awards and is excited and grateful for the opportunity to showcase the industry that he has worked so hard for and deserves recognition for the often unnoticed work it performs to keep so many facilities across the country hygienic and healthy places to work in, visit and play
The awards will be hosted virtually this year on 12th November, and we look forward to celebrating David’s and Cleaning Melbourne’s success.
